Death penalty shouldn't be for just cop killers
Although we are horrified by the recent murders of members of our police community, in reality, murder is murder, and it shouldn't matter whether it's a cop or just the average John/Jane Doe.
It was stated in a recent newspaper article that New York Sen. Raymond Meier, R-Western, said cop killers should be treated differently than other murderers because "Criminals who murder police officers strike at more than one life. By murdering one of those sworn to protect all of us, they commit the ultimate offense against every citizen and society as a whole."
It is no more horrific that a cop was shot than it is when a neighbor or a friend or a family member or even an unknown law-abiding citizen is killed.
If the death penalty is reinstated, it should be for all murderers, not just a chosen few.
