Condemned prisoner's suicide being investigated
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is investigating convicted killer Michael Dewayne Johnson's suicide on the day of his scheduled execution.
The Office of Inspector General, which is the investigative arm of the prison system, is handling the investigation, TDCJ spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said.
Investigators aren't releasing any more details of how Johnson cut his neck and throat with a small piece of metal attached to a wooden base, she said. Johnson killed himself while on suicide watch on death row between 15-minute observation rounds.
An autopsy on his body is being performed in Galveston County, although results won’t be available for another week or more.
Lyons said it is too early to comment whether any policies will change as a result of Johnson’s suicide. She said officials would wait for the investigation report before evaluating procedures to determine if any changes were needed.

This is terrible what happened. My thoughts are with Michael's family and friends.

strangest thing about i was that the day he committed suicide, which I honestly think was assisted in some way by the guards, he was supposed to have killed himself on the day of his execution
