Chief U.S District Court Judge Curtis Collier today scheduled a Feb. 5, 2007, trial for an Atlanta man accused of kidnapping an Atlanta restaurant owner and killing him in Collegedale.
Federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Rejon Taylor, who is one of three men charged in the Aug. 6, 2003, death of Violette restaurant owner Guy Luck.
Also charged in the fatal shooting are Sir Jack Matthews and Joey Marshall, but Assistant U.S. Attorney Steve Neff said authorities are not seeking the death penalty against those men.
Plea agreements are expected for those defendants, he said.
Testimony from a previous hearing in state court indicated that the three men forced Mr. Luck into his van and drove him to Tennessee, where he was shot during a struggle.
This will be the first federal death penalty sought in the Eastern District of Tennessee.
